Ocean Fades

Inspired by climate change and the rising issue of coral bleaching in the ocean. Ocean Fades is a collection/outfit which drives to make an impact. I wanted to illustrate the dramatic change that happens overtime. The vibrant ocean life is being destroyed, loosing the ecosystem and colour of the reef. Using the method of ice dyeing, the top is layered in the ruffled fabric creating texture of the reef using the colours of the ocean. Paired with white wide leg trousers, draping chiffon delicately around the leg. Coloured patchwork is handsewn onto the chiffon. Using colour I wanted to translate the change that the coral goes through. In coral bleaching, the coral begins to deteriorate. Gradually the colour fades, making the coral appear white, although it actually becomes transparent and the white shown is actually the skeleton. I wanted to create something that could convey the change happening with climate change. This issue is one which is only increasing. Researching into this issue has helped me gain a wide knowledge of understanding. I want people to realise impact and the significance of global warming as it is already beginning to destroy the decades of beauty in the ocean rapidly.
