Heart of the Earth

Heart of the Earth is a limited-edition capsule collection for S/S 22/23 designing women's occasionwear. The collection aims to convey a mesmerising side to a harsh theme, communicating a softer delicate perspective of volcanoes. This was my Honours Project for my final year at university. This collection is inspired by volcanic activity and the mysterious power of nature. I wanted to capture the beauty within this destructive force and reveal a delicate and mesmerising side of this natural phenomenon. Across a variety of cultures volcanoes signify ancient beliefs and mythology that represent their cultures, frequently signifying a higher power, often associated with gods. Outfit 1

Sleeveless crop top in double jersey, lined in charmeuse black satin. Black and red print is inspired by the lava flow, on digitally printed fabric. Wrapover trousers with an asymmetric wrapover inspired by the tectonic plate movements in black crepe back satin.

Outfit 2

Supreme chiffon midi slip dress in amber. Cropped bomber jacket with hood, made from dark grey ripstop, orange cuffing fabric and light grey charmeuse lining. Grey and orange print inspired by lava flow, on digitally printed fabric. Two piece crop top and short set inspired by tectonic plate movement. The plates collide beneath the earth's surface causing magma to erupt from the peak of the volcano, bring lava to the earth's surface. The fitted set is uniquely shaped from charcoal stretch jersey. Yellow and orange tone threads are hand embroidered to represent the cracks among the colliding tectonic plates.

Outfit 3

Layered chiffon top with thin straps, made from layered bright red supreme chiffon and marron catitonic chiffon , lined with crimson red charmeuse satin. Floor length layered chiffon skirt captures the shades of lava flow, made from layered burnt orange catitonic chiffon and polyester chiffon in apricot, and tiger orange polyester satin.
